Remember when we said the poor performance of the LCB’s wine kiosks would ultimately spell doom for the state-run booze board? Well, we may have had it all wrong. The wine vending machines are still a dismal failure, but what might save the LCB is news that the agency has reaped record profits in its just concluded fiscal year. KYW Newsradio reports that the LCB broke its own records with sales totaling $1.96 billion, of which more than a half a billion dollars was transferred over to the state’s Treasury. Not too shabby, right? That impressive figure is surely going to make some of Harrisburg’s fiscally fixated think twice about dismantling the cash cow. But with the promise of privatization legislation coming sometime in the next few days, who knows? [KYW Newsradio]
