Burger Urge, From a Bi-Rite Family Relation, On Its Way in Upper Haight

It looks like yet another new burger place will be popping up soon, this time in the Upper Haight. Grub Street learns today that Burger Urge is the name for the concept that will be moving into 1599 Haight Street, a former tattoo parlor at the corner of Haight and Clayton. When the building owner previously applied to convert the space, the concept was announced as Mama’s Kitchen, and it looks like that has morphed since partnering with experienced food purveyors the Mogannam family. The liquor license app is in the name of Jack Mogannam, son of the retired co-owner of Bi-Rite Market, and cousin of Sam Mogannam, who now runs the show. Update: Sam, we’re told, won’t be involved in Burger Urge.

Building owner Sam Sirhed had earlier reached out via Craigslist to find an experienced, “classy” food-and-beverage operator to run the place, and it looks like he found one.

We’re going to pencil this one in for sometime in the fall, and file it under DEVELOPING.
