While Ohio is making a point to let its residents hit bars while packing heat, the city of Newark just passed an ordinance that makes it mandatory for restaurants to put armed guards on duty from 9 p.m. until closing. The move is a response to the shooting of police officer William Johnson, who was killed while waiting to buy a slice of pizza. Only restaurants that serve fewer than twenty people — meaning fast-food restaurants, basically — have to comply. Larger places can go guard-less, presumably because people don’t actually get shot in nicer sit-down places in New Jersey — or do they? [Star-Ledger]
