7-11 Celebrates 84 Years and New Downtown Store With Free Slurpees

Long before 41,300 7-11 stores dominated the whole of Earth with creepy-looking hot dogs and price-gouging batteries, we all loved The Slurpee, right? On July 11 (7/11, get it?), the soul-crushing convenience store will celebrate its 84th birthday by giving away free 7.11 oz. Slurpees at several of its national locations.

In L.A., 7-11 is making it even hotter, with a celebration at Downtown’s new store that will feature a few Laker Girls, a cake-cutting ceremony with City Council and LAPD reps (watch the donuts), live music, and a free-Slurpee dispensing Slurpee truck. You can also expect Slurpee-drinking contests and a chance to win 84 days of free Slurpees, which won’t put the company out of business, considering it generated sales of $63 billion last year. Also, seeing as a Slurpee the size of the Silver Lake reservoir doesn’t cost more than a few bucks, you’ll have to decide whether it’s really worth skipping work. Still 7-11, smart move pulling on our Slurpee heart-strings like that. We actually almost liked you again for a second.

Monday, July 11th, 11:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M., 848 West 7th St. Downtown.
