Sure, we were just as giddy everyone else when news broke yesterday that Danny Meyer was bringing his Shake Shack to Philly. But now that we’ve processed the part about it not opening until late 2012, we’re beginning to wonder if its arrival next year will be a little too late? Let’s face it, our collective all-beef patty preoccupation is waning. Stephen Starr’s been scratching our Shake Shack itch for two years with Square Burger. Iron Chef Garces knocked it out the park with the foie gras anointed Whiskey King at future Shake Shack neighbor Village Whiskey. Bobby brought us a Burger Palace. Elevation Burger elevated us (as did the local start-up, Burger.Org). Five Guys? Jake’s Wayback? Yup, we’ve got them too! The dudes over at Pub & Kitchen have even given us the LaFrieda fix we never knew we needed. So at this point next year, provided burgers are still, like, our thing, what could Shake Shack really give us that we haven’t already had our fill of?
