What a strange past year it’s been for NoMI. The restaurant on the 7th floor of the Park Hyatt Chicago lost its executive chef and sous chef last fall. While it seemed like the restaurant was having issues, the rest of the year couldn’t have been better. It got a great new chef in Ryan LaRoche, was named “Restaurant of the Year” by the Sun Times, and even received a Michelin star. Then, to great surprise, the restaurant decided to close for a massive renovation. Instead of a simple redecorating, it closed for nearly five months. Apparently, LaRoche wanted to create a more approachable menu, and it was renamed NoMI Kitchen. Luckily, we just got our hands on the menu, so we can finally see what he means before the restaurant reopens this Friday, June 3.

The menu continues its focus on seasonal appetizers, fresh fish, and slightly more traditional main courses, but the prices are definitely lower. Sure, you can buy a whole lobe of Hudson Valley foie gras for $160, but most of the menu is under $30 for dinner. New appetizers include an English pea soup, prawn and pea shoot salad, and a foraged mushroom salad. The raw seafood portion of the menu has been condensed to a five item Ocean Bar, which features oysters, crudo, and only one sushi platter.

As for entrees, you’ll have a choice between more composed Mains and à la carte options in the Simply Prepared section. Mains include pan seared diver scallops with crayfish, Lake Superior Walleye, and handmade taglilini. The Simply Prepared section is where you’ll find the Maine lobster and prime New York strip.

While the dinner menu feels paired down and edited, the lunch menu is small enough to fit on one page. While it includes appetizers, a few mains, and some selections from the Ocean Bar, there will also be some sandwiches available. It’s even more affordable, with none of the entrees costing more than $20.

NoMI Kitchen is being called the “centerpiece” of a whole NoMI complex, which also includes the NoMI Lounge, NoMI Garden, and NoMI Spa. You can see it all starting on Friday, but for now check out the dinner and lunch menus below.
