Grant Achatz’s underground speakeasy became a little less mysterious last night, after the acclaimed chef e-mailed us a copy of the bar’s food and drink menu. First off, though there was some dispute earlier this week, it looks like we can all officially settle on calling this thing The Office. We like it. Okay, what else? Well, the food menu is as old school as we were lead to believe; shrimp cocktail, caviar by the ounce, and beef tartare are all “recommended for sharing,” which should help soften the blow of the latter costing $50. There is even an ice cream sundae! (Sidenote: wouldn’t you have loved to be in the test kitchen during that process?) That said, the drinks caught us off guard.
As Time Out has already mentioned, the cocktails aren’t quite as traditional as was first hinted. Though these may be inspired by the pre-prohibition drinks, there is a cocktail with rye whiskey, sichuan peppercorns, smoked malt, demerara, cinchona, and grapefruit. Does that sound like something you would have ordered a hundred years ago? Still, it does sound oddly delicious.
Of course, we are still talking like we actually have a chance of somehow getting an invitation to this private party. We can hope, can’t we?
