Unnamed Restaurant Softly Opens In Old Oakland

The space formerly occupied by Kuwa (1015 Clay Street) in Old Oakland has morphed into a new casual breakfast and lunch spot tentatively called 1015 Clay. Some initial reports on Chowhound suggested that this was a new project from the team behind Chop Bar, but that turns out not to be the case — Grub Street contacted Chop Bar and they deny any involvement. [Update: It turns out Chop Bar partner Jesse Branstetter, who considers himself now a “non-operational” partner, is behind the new project, as the East Bay Express reports.] The new restaurateurs promise “seasonally and locally sourced foods,” and say that they will give the restaurant a name once they move into the dinner-serving phase. So far they’re taking things slow, only open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, doing mostly sandwiches, and they have a 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Happy Hour on Thursdays and Fridays with $6 cocktails, ribs, patatas bravas, and such. Here are the breakfast and lunch menus. [Grub Street]
