There’s been lots of rumblings about a new barbecue, bourbon and blues joint coming to the former Kildare’s space near Headhouse on Second Street, but no real signs of progress. Today comes word that that joint, now known as the Twisted Tail, is on track for a July opening. Owner George Reilly and Chef Michael Stevenson plan to offer a menu of charcoal-fired grilled dishes, a bourbon-heavy selection of whiskeys and live music five nights a week, according to a prepared statement issued this morning. “Primal” oysters, grilled directly over the hot coals and served with pickled watermelon, Kurobuta pork saddle and “Five-Spot” sharable small plates (for $5) are some of the forthcoming menu’s highlights. The 4,000 square foot space will have a huge horseshoe-shaped bar, a live music room with another bar, and a loungey area with fireplaces, TVs and shuffleboard. Did you hear that? Shuffleboard!

Twisted Tail, 509 South 2nd Street, no phone yet.
