Star Spangled Sushi Hits Chaya Venice

Are we being unpatriotic if we don’t want to eat red, white, and blue sushi? That is the question. Not to be confused with Dunkin’ Donuts’ Captain America Slushies and cupcakes, Chaya Venice is rolling out a Fourth of July menu with Independence Day-themed eats, a live gumbo band, and a six-hour happy hour from 5:00 to 11:00 P.M. There’s a $20 Kobe beef burger, which sure, sounds sorta North American, and roasted white corn. But the stunners/squeam-inducers of the group are these red, white, and blue spicy tuna and California rolls made with dyed daikon cut into the shape of stars. Sure, they blue dye looks dubious, but it’s probably easier to just order these than to make a U.S flag cake or a steak in the shape of Texas.
