First Look at Smith Canteen, Seersucker’s Takeout-Shop Offshoot
Southern-inspired Brooklyn restaurant Seersucker expands next week with Smith Canteen, a spinoff coffee bar and takeout shop down the street. The new fourteen-seat location, situated in a turn-of-the-twentieth-century pharmacy with original shelving and tile floor intact, will absorb Seersucker’s breakfast and lunch business, opening first for Counter Culture Coffee drinks and house-baked pastries, with soups, salads, and sandwiches to follow next week. Items listed on the full-wall chalkboard menu might include a Long Island duck confit bánh mì and roasted turkey on an “everything” croissant; the “Greenmarket Menu” section showcases ingredients procured from the Sunday farmers’ market across the street (first up: roast-beef sandwich made with Grazin’ Angus Acres eye of round, with Dancing Ewe Farm pecorino and salsa verde). Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
