First Look at Jazz Club Moldy Fig, Classing Up the Lower East Side
With mechanical bulls gone legs up on the Lower East Side, perhaps the hood is ready for some classier nightlife options. Like a jazz club! That’s what Moldy Fig had in mind — since opening a week and a half ago, the bar has been hosting nightly jazz sets and late-night jam sessions. Owner Charles Brown managed Fat Cat for years and wanted his first venture to be “something for the grown-ups.” That comes in the form of a high-ceilinged brick-walled space with shuffleboard, Scrabble, and a stage at one end (check that out in our slideshow). There’s beer and wine, and, coming soon, a snacky menu of sliders, panini, and cheese plates.
