John Walker & Co. Shutters Temporarily, City’s Mixologists Weep

Bad news in cocktail land today as the 78-year-old fine liquor purveyor John Walker & Co. (175 Sutter Street) appears to be in some trouble. A sign in the window says they’re just trying to “get the store back in shape,” as Eater reports, but an anonymous cocktail world source tells us there’s some unfortunate wrangling with the ABC to blame. (First there was InfusionGate 2010, now this?) Many local bartenders depend on this place for last-minute purchases of specialty ingredients, and they’re now left with just Cask on Third Street for their falernum and celery bitters emergencies. More on this devastating news as we hear it, but all signs point to an eventual reopening. [Eater]
