El Pollo Loco Didn’t Start the Fire

Squid Ink makes us quite content that we avoided El Pollo Loco’s widely publicized attempt to build the world’s largest man-made fire for the Guinness World Record. Why? It turns out the whole thing was a fraud and a fake, a two-hour-wasting fake in the hot Hollywood sun designed for a commercial. Poor, probably sunburned scribe Keith “Woodward” Plocek explains the anticlimax after 120 minutes of build-up: “What happens next breaks our heart. A guy comes out with what looks like a brick of charcoal. He places it in a hole under the giant stick. They’re faking the smoke.” [Squid Ink]
