East Village Loses Mars Bar and Gains … IHOP!

Photo: Youngna Park

Mars Bar has long been awaiting its death date, and Crain’s now reports that its building will be demolished in August. Nine longtime tenants will be allowed to buy apartments in the 65-unit complex that will replace it for $10 each, but the article says nothing about whether everyone’s favorite place for Danzig and romancing will return to the new building as previously planned. Sad news to be sure, but don’t worry, East Villagers: If a banner spotted by an EV Grieve tipster on 14th Street between Second and Third Avenues is any indicator, an IHOP is “COMING SOON.” Hey, you were warned. Is this the takeover by the flyover?
