Today, the first issue of the much-buzzed-about new food journal Lucky Peach hits stands both virtual and real. It’s a collaboration between McSweeney’s and David Chang (“Momofuku,” you’ve surely read by now, means “lucky peach”), and Chang himself is in S.F. for the launch party tonight at the Makeout Room.

The inaugural issue is “The Ramen Issue,” and as we know from preview pages there’s a piece about ramen cinema by Anthony Bourdain; an illustrated three-way rant between Bourdain, Chang, and Wylie Dufresne in which Chang declares that “America is king of being mediocre”; Ruth Reichl taste-testing packaged ramen; and a recipe for Dufresne’s molecular version of eggs Benedict that involves fried hollandaise.

A promised Lucky Peach iPad app is launching in the coming weeks, and if you subscribe to the mag now, know that you’ll be starting with issue two, to be called “The Sweet Spot.”
