You can thank Europeans and their crazy late-night drinking schedules for a new proposal that would allow most outdoor patios in the downtown area to stay open until midnight every night of the week. Ald. Brendan Reilly, 42nd, noted the change would allow the city to “better cater to a cosmopolitan clientele,” which apparently includes those from across the pond. The measure got a “preliminary nod” from the City Council yesterday and looks likely to pass. Currently, outdoor patios need to close by 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. If you happen to live above one of these establishment, don’t worry too much; this only matters during the three months of the year when it is actually comfortable to drink outside at night. [Trib]
