Ristorante Capri (2272 Market Street) closed its doors last weekend, as predicted, after twenty-six years serving up no-frills Italian to the Castro. The restaurant’s replacement, Canela, from owners Francisco Cifuentes and chef Mat Schuster should be on its way in the coming months. [Grub Street]

And just a couple of blocks over, at the former Tazza d’Amore space (3463 16th Street at Sanchez), Tablehopper heeded our warning and tracked down the new owner, Josh Birch (the same Josh Birch who’ll be launching Da Bettina at 111 Minna), who’ll be opening Café Sophie within about a week. They’ll be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the menu will feature both fresh pastries, “pop tarts,” and pressed sandwiches and other savory items. [Tablehopper, Earlier]
