Boo! Health Department Puts Kibosh on La Oaxaqueña’s Grasshopper Tacos

Mission taqueria La Oaxaqueña has gotten a lot of buzz for their grasshopper tacos and fried tarantulas, but now the Health Department has stepped in and said, “No way, Jose.” They actually don’t have a problem with the taqueria serving insects, per se, but they insist that owner Harry Persaud find an FDA-approved source for his bugs, which he’s been importing from Mexico thus far. He says he may start raising his own chapulines (grasshoppers), but for the time being, you won’t be able to get your insect fix in the Mission.
