Last we checked in on American Sardine Bar, the long overdue venture from South Philadelphia Tap Room owner John Longacre, all systems were go and following Beer Week, an opening was imminent. A month after its projected opening date, the bar and restaurant is still not open. What’s the hold up? It turns out that despite getting the approval and endorsement of multiple community organizations, opposition from individuals and the threat of lawsuit from City Council President Anna Verna has held the project back, according to Naked Philly. And to literally add injury to insult, after yet again pleading his case before the community and gaining unanimous approval, was accosted by a lone protestor, who was not in favor of the bar’s opening. Slightly bruised and battered, Longacre now says American Sardine Bar will open in a month. [Naked Philly]
