The latest entry in Bridgeport’s burgeoning food scene officially opened this week. Called Pleasant House Bakery, it has a decidedly English tilt and focuses much of its attention on the savory side of things. It is run by the husband and wife team, Art Jackson and Chelsea Kalberloh Jackson, and will serve what are being called royal pies. According to the two, the British delicacies can be “filled with meats, vegetables, and stews,” and are “as ubiquitous in England as burgers are in the United States.” Anglophiles should probably check this place out immediately.

Along with the pies, the menu includes a selection of sandwiches, salads, and at least two forms of “spuds” (mash and chips). For those with a sweet tooth, a daily rotation of “specialty sweets” will also be available. As we mentioned a few weeks ago, the shop will host a weekly fish fry on Fridays, which will feature “sustainable lake and sea creatures.” It’s BYOB for now, but, as the menu points out, “our pies pair well with beer or wine from Maria’s next door.” Check out the full menu below.
