Though an official announcement has not been made, the buzz surrounding the Hotel Bel-Air’s reopening places Edward “Sonny” Sweetman as the executive chef at Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air, the new restaurant coming to the legendary property this fall. After running his own Baltimore restaurant, Abacrombie, for years, Sweetman became a lynchpin of Puck’s corporate catering division, helping design menus for restaurants like Boca at The Conga Room and running the kitchen for its Nokia Live event space. Last September, the chef made beet macarons at Sashi’s All-Star Dinner that went over well with Food GPS, so we think tortilla soup will hardly be an obstacle he can’t handle. Oh Sonny, could it be that the dark days are gone and the bright days are here?
