Owner of Felony Franks Sues City

Last time we heard about Felony Franks, the crime-themed hot dog stand in East Garfield Park, owner Jim Andrews was thinking about suing the city after an alderman wouldn’t let him put up a sign. The stand actively promotes that it hires ex-offenders, and wanted to advertise its location along Western Ave. with the slogan, “Food so good, it’s criminal.” Alderman Bob Fioretti is “strongly opposed to it,” but Committee chair Anthony Beale warned last month that the city might lose the case. Perhaps they should have paid attention to him. Andrews just sued for $300,000, accusing the city of “trampling on his First Amendment rights.” [Sun Times]
