Georgio’s Cucina Lives On With A New James Beard Nominee in the Kitchen

Chef Gary Robins is now cooking Korean at Moko, but Georgio’s Cucina, the pop-up Italian in Studio City where Robins resurfaced last fall, has been resuscitated. The restaurant is still referring to itself as a pop-up, even though it also promises on its website that “this incarnation of Georgio’s will be here for another three generations.” Yesterday the restaurant launched lunch service (also not very pop-up-like) with Miami’s Jeffrey Nimer in the kitchen as exec chef. Who’s he?

Nimer is a vet of Miami’s Blue Door, Baleen, and Red Fish Grill who was nominated for a James Beard Award for Best Hotel Chef (2000-2001) while working at Loews Santa Monica. More recently, the chef started his own Hatue Chefs catering company, which has been popular with star functions and power brokers like David Geffen. Check out the chef’s new lunch menu and dinner menu online and if interested, we think it’s safe to say you have at least two generations to get over to this so-called pop-up.
