June’s “Trendspotting” column in Food & Wine digs deep into American craft beer. The piece leaves few stones unturned, tackling everything from gypsy brewers and emerging beer styles to glassware and a recipe for an India Pale Ale vinaigrette. Of particular interest to Philly’s beer and restaurant enthusiasts, under the heading of “New Beer Discoveries,” Christian DeBenedetti, author of the forthcoming The Great American Ale Trail lists four of this country’s best beer destinations. One of those picks is East Fall’s Fork & Barrel, the now controversial candlelit beer bar that Farmers’ Cabinet owners Matt and Colleen Swartz, and partner Matt Scheller closed suddenly last month, which is kind of a drag. But on the brighter side, Farmers’s Cabinet also gets a mention under a similar piece entitled “Serious Drinking Food.” [Food & Wine]
