Eric Ripert, Alton Brown, and Others Take Home James Beard Foundation Media Awards

The James Beard Foundation’s chef and restaurant awards aren’t till tonight, but on Friday the media had its fun at the Book, Broadcast and Journalism Awards. We dare say we had the most fun of all — Grub Street New York took home its second award, for Best Group Blog. And Benjamin Wallace won best profile for coaxing Keith McNally out of his shell in the pages of New York. Harold McGee received hall of fame honors from Wylie Dufresne, who hilariously held up McGee’s award and said he always wondered what one would feel like (the Susan Lucci of the Beards may find out this evening — he’s up for Best Chef: New York City). In case you’re wondering, nobody claimed the ever-mysterious Ruth Bourdain’s award, though RuBo did accept via Twitter: “I couldn’t have done it without three very important people: Ruth Reichl, Tony Bourdain, and his lover, Eric Ripert.” Major congos to the rest of this year’s winners below. Look for them sporting the coveted Uncle Fester medal at Momofuku and Torrisi’s after-party at the Jane Hotel tonight.
