It wasn’t too long after Stephen Simons and Dave Frank opened the East Passyunk Ave. hipster stalwart Cantina Los Caballitos back in 2006 that the building next door crumbled and collapsed. And since then, Simons, Frank and just about every Cantina regular has joked about the restaurant expanding its outdoor presence into that lot. Well, that day has finally come. Yesterday work crews cut through the wall separating the Cantina’s dining room and the vacant lot outside. In weeks to come Simons expects to begin seating guests there. “It’s something we’ve been hoping for, for a number of years,” Simons told Grub Street. “We finally got the go-ahead from the property’s owner. I’m sure we can make better use of the lot than just having it be a place for leaves to collect.”
