Booze News: Murray Stenson Leaves Zig Zag, Gin Class, Guest Nola Bartender Tonight

In the drink world, both locally and up the Coast, there’s a few newsworthy items to end our Thursday.

The big bar news today is that Seattle bartending legend, Murray Stenson (winner of the title “Best Bartender in America” last year at Tales of the Cocktail), leaves the bar he put on the national map, Zig Zag Cafe. He’s moving on to Michael Mina’s soon-to-open Seattle outpost of RN74. SeattleMet announced the news today, followed by a brief interview with Murray who says, “I’m looking to simplify. I’m really old, and Zig Zag is a young man’s bar.” Just like the original SF location, RN74 Seattle has a wine list by Rajat Parr. [SeattleMet]

Head over tonight to 15 Romolo to catch bartender Ashley Curren, from one of New Orleans’ top bars, Cure, mixing up cocktails with the Romolo crew.

This Saturday, learn four classic gin cocktail recipes at D.I.Y. Gin with the one-and-only Scott Beattie and Old World Spirits’ Davorin Kuchan as part of CUESA’s “Cocktail 101” series at the Ferry Building. [CUESA]
