Why Can't Us?

Where to Watch the Phillies Season Opener (or Still Enjoy Yourself If It Gets Rained or Snowed Out)

For a day that began with freezing temperatures and snow, it hardly feels like it’s time for baseball’s season opener. Nonetheless, the Phils are scheduled to square off against the Astros at Citizen’s Bank Park at 1:05 p.m. And if we can believe what the meteorologists are saying, the show will go on! Whether it goes off without a hitch or gets rained or snowed out, we have some suggestion for where you can go to watch it or lament its postponement. At 12 Noon, the folks from Yards Brewing Co. are taking over the Devil’s Den, which we hope will have its fireplace going. They’ll be pouring their elusive Trubbel De Yards, 2010’s Saison and debut this year’s vintage as well. (Holy vertical tasting). Plus there are specials on chilidogs and complimentary rally towels available. And if you’re feeling foolish, ask the Yards people about their new guarana-infused energy session beer, Torque.

McGillin’s Olde Ale House will show the game on its eight TVs and two gigantic projectors screens, and serve up a selection of Phillies inspired cocktails.

Gunners Run is open and offers a great place to watch the game outside on Piazza’s giant screen. Same goes for P.Y.T., which is supposedly simultaneously celebrating PYTijuana, serving only a menu of empanadas. It’s likely that last part is an April Fool’s joke.

• South Philly’s Bottle Shop is serving up snacks and hot dogs to go with their oodles of bottled craft beer.

• Out in the ‘burbs, Cantina Feliz is offering happy hour all day and will have the game on at the bar and in the private dining room.
