It’s been quite a year for the Boka Restaurant Group. After successfully launching Stephanie Izard’s Girl & The Goat and then pulling in Paul Virant to take over Perennial, they’ve now opened GT Fish & Oyster. The restaurant features the cooking of Giuseppe Tentori, who has been the executive chef at BOKA. As we mentioned before, the restaurant occupies a strange middle ground for a seafood restaurant. It’s definitely not a glorified fish shack like Fish Bar, nor is it an extravagant high end experience like L2O. Discounting the one steak and the king crab legs for “market price,” all of the menu items here are under $20, which is incredibly rare for a seafood restaurant. We dropped by yesterday to see it all for ourselves.
We were first struck by the design of the place, which, once again, manages to feature a few nautical design elements without dipping into New England kitsch. But there was also a definite energy to the room, especially with the near constant shucking of oysters. We’ll have to wait at least a few months to see what the critics think of the food, but for now check out a slideshow of the restaurant below, along with the official menu.
