Sharkeez, Southern California’s sports bar bastion for drunk twenty-somethings on the make, might not be for all of us, but it’s a cornerstone of the South Bay party scene. When Hermosa Beach’s location had a debilitating fire in 2006, the party crowd managed to survive by swelling the nearby Manhattan Beach location until the fallen one sprang back to life two years later. This Thursday, Manhattan Beach debuts its own completely new Sharkeez location just up the street from its original Highland space, which as of two weeks ago, became The Fish House to serve line-caught seafood. So what’s new here?

The new Sharkeez is being called Baja Sharkeez Upper Manhattan and a manager says it is being appropriately tricked out with new “bells and whistlers” to justify the name, all to be previewed at Thursday’s grand-opening party at 5:00 P.M. The restaurant even has a fancy new “S” logo. Yes, fancier than a guitar-playing shark in a mariachi’s hat, if you can believe it.
