Back in March Grub Street told you that East Passyunk Ave. was expecting two new arrivals this spring. Now it’s looking like one of those two new spots we told you about has hit a snag. It seems L&I; has issued a cease operations/stop work order on 1700 East Passyunk Ave., the future home of Birra, the craft beer and rustic Italian number from former Starr vet Gorgon Dinerman. According to the tell-tale candy-striped notice stuck on the front of the property, the project must obtain proper zoning, demolition and construction permits before work can continue. In addition to cease and desist order, there’s also a notice regarding an East Passyunk Crossing Civic Association zoning meeting happening tonight that will discuss Birra’s request for a liquor license and permits for a take-out restaurant.
