Chef Thomas “TK” Kim is preparing cool casual eats down in the South Bay at The Standing Room, the little take-out joint he opened last month in Redondo’s Catalina Liquor and Deli. Along with changing weekly specials, Kim has a menu of burgers, sandwiches, sides, and full plates, with nothing over thirteen dollars. Certain dishes might even feel at home at A-Frame, bearing influences from both sides of the Pacific in an homage to L.A. culture and beach-friendly surf cuisine. Starters include jerk chicken wings, and shishito peppers with lup chong sausage and sweet soy, while a half-pound Napolean burger heaps on braised short rib, gruyere, cheddar, bacon, and fried egg and a Philly cheese steak uses bulgogi and kim chi. There’s a sense of humor on display with a chicken-centered Bok Bok sandwich with baby greens, while slow-cooked carnitas are a mainstay and a hoisin pork and buttered kim chi sandwich is named The K Dilla. Fun fun! Take a look at the food and space in preparation for the summer opening of an outside ordering window and on-site eating.
