Considering the number of restaurant makeover shows, it’s kind of astonishing that it has taken this long for someone to do the same thing for bars. Late last year, Spike TV announced a new show called Bar Rescue. It’s going to feature Jon Taffer giving “failing establishments one last chance to succeed.” Filming for the first show begins in a couple weeks, and it turns out that it’ll be coming to Chicago to give a “makeover” to Blue Frog 22 in River North, which the PR e-mail claims is “a lackluster Karaoke bar.” Expect “in-your-face” style from Taffer, and lots of tough love. Also, the show will take a look at The Abbey in Irving Park, which is described a little more lovingly as a “legendary bar and music venue.” Honestly, we’ve never been to either location, so we can’t say for sure. But what do you think? Do these places really need a huge makeover, or are there even worse bars out there?
