Closings

Learning about two closings isn’t exactly the best way to start the weekend. Still, in both cases a new restaurant has already taken their place. So should we be sad about the closings or excited about the openings? First off, The Feast reports that Treat, a restaurant in Humbolt Park with a slight Indian bent, will close on April 3. Chef and owner, Tamiz Haiderali, didn’t exactly seem upset about it, saying that he was “excited to be moving on to greener, lusher pastures after five years of operation.” Interestingly, he also let The Feast know that a new restaurant called Roku Sushi has already signed up to take the space. But that isn’t the only case of closing leading directly to another opening.

Time Out just posted that Simple Sandwich, which was a pioneering food truck, sold its ride. Owner, David Wojtonik, told TOC that once he realized “that the legislation wasn’t really going anywhere,” he decided to close. He doesn’t regret the truck, and said business was good. In fact, look out for a permanent Loop location for the sandwich shop soon. But what happened to the truck? Apparently 5411 Emapanadas has it now.
