The earthquake and tsunami in Sendai, and now the ongoing nuclear crisis, have personally affected may in San Francisco’s Japanese community, and two local chefs, Sho Kamio of Yoshi’s and Hiro Sone of Terra and Ame are organizing a pair of large benefit events in early April. As the Scoop reports, both chefs are natives of Sendai, and they actually led a culinary tour of the area two years ago with Staffan Terje (Perbacco), Ravi Kapur (Prospect), Bruce Hill (Picco, Zero Zero), Paul Canales (formerly of Oliveto), and Sone’s wife Lissa Doumani. That group is reuniting to cook a special dinner on April 3 at Prospect, with tickets priced at $300 and 100% of the proceeds going to benefit disaster victims.

A second event will take place April 9 at Yoshi’s with an even longer list of local chefs, including Ken Tominaga (Hana and Go Fish), and Chris Cosentino (Incanto). Tickets are $75 per person, and this will be a more casual daytime affair, with live music, from 1 to 4 p.m. on a Saturday.
