Tommy Bermejo, who with his wife Elmy opened Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in the Richmond in 1965, died suddenly this week, marking the third recent death of a local industry legend after Henry Africa and Juanita Musson. As Bonné reports in the Scoop, Bermejo’s son Julio has been running the restaurant for many years and is responsible for making it a tequila lovers’ mecca, but Tommy and Elmy first opened it originally as a simple Yucatecan restaurant, after immigrating from their native Oxkutzcab.
