Since September, discriminating Chinese-food devotees have lamented the closure of Cambridge’s Qingdao Garden. After months of what looked like little progress, many wondered if the place would even reopen at all. Well, fret not. Tomorrow’s the big relaunch, and we’ve got the scoop. Details within.

Chef-owner Wen Xiang, who seemed downright giddy with excitement when we caught up with him, says that a series of contracting woes led to the extended delay. (Hat tip to Chowhound for following the progress so closely.) “We spent a lot of money!” he tells Grub Street. “Everything is brand new.”

Xiang also upgraded his Northern Chinese menu. “We’ll have a lot more new dishes,” he promises. “I cannot say anything more. I must give people a surprise!” He does reveal that he’s been spending time trotting from South Boston to Chinatown to Watertown (Russo’s is a favorite hangout), trying out new ingredients and recipes. “I’ll be focusing on a lot of fresh vegetables and sauces,” he says.

In sum: “My style is free-style!” Winning!
