The attentions of L.A.’s food fanatics are due to be southbound this summer, as we just stumbled on new restaurant plans for BLD and Grace chef and owner Neal Fraser in Manhattan Beach, just around the corner from David Lefevre’s Manhattan Beach Post, which is coming along nicely. The former den of douchery called Beaches, just steps from the sand on Manhattan Beach Blvd., is now outfitted with plans for a two-story “New American cuisine” restaurant from the Zislis Group, owners of Shade Hotel and properties across the street, Rock N’ Fish and Brewco.
In detailed bios now gracing the shuttered windows, the plans name Neal Fraser as the unnamed restaurant’s executive chef and Chicago’s Travis Lorton, recently found at Gjelina, in the position of chef de cuisine. Early sketches show plans for a mezzanine oyster bar and top-level dining under chandeliers, while minutes from a planning commission hearing show attempts to get a balcony added to the space. The restaurant is announcing plans for an opening this summer. The news, on the heels of our Manhattan Beach Post discovery, bodes quite well for the beach city’s uneven dining scene.
