M. Rohrs’ Closes After Over a Century

DNA Info reports that M. Rohrs’ House of Fine Teas and Coffee, which has been on the Upper East Side (at various locations) since 1896, is closing, and may or may not reopen elsewhere. Owner Donald Wright blames laptop lingerers, increased coffee competition, and the regulations and expenses associated with running the café end of the retail operation, and says, “In order to survive in the city, you’ve got to be a chain or a big restaurant. We tried to do middle of the road and it didn’t work.” [DNA Info]
