Chicago has its fair share of awards, lists, and countdowns, but few are quite as as helpful or as well researched as LTHForum’s annual list of Great Neighborhood Restaurants. It celebrates the eating establishments that best “contribute to their neighborhoods’ and the city’s character” with “outstanding food,” “authentic experience,” and “welcoming (or in some cases, belovedly cranky) atmosphere.” This year 21 different restaurants and resources were honored, and the winners are all over the map. The list included pizza joints (Art of Pizza), approachable stands (Mr. D’s Shish-Kabobs and Carniceria y Taqueria Tierra Caliente), and even a few chef-driven joints (The Bristol, The Purple Pig, and Xoco). You can argue about the results, but we totally admire a list which features at least a few restaurants that we’ve never heard about and can’t wait to try. Check out the full list below.
