You can’t accuse Food & Wine of overlooking Philly’s top culinary talent in its quest for the “The People’s Best New Chef 2011: Mid-Atlantic” award. Not with the likes of Osteria’s Jeff Micahud, Bibou’s Pierre Calmels, Koo Zee Doo’s David Gilberg and Blackfish’s Chip Roman in the running. What has us troubled about F&W;’s newly democratized award isn’t the nominees, it’s the pool of voters. Are we sure we want to open the voting up to “the people” on this? After all this is the same bunch that’s responsible for making Chima Brazilian Steakhouse the city’s second most popular restaurant. [Eatocracy]
