Homeroom (400 40th Street, Oakland), the mac-and-cheese-centric restaurant from Local Lemons blogger Allison Arevalo and partner Erin Wade that we broke the news about last year, makes its debut next week, February 15, on a semi-desolate strip near the Macarthur BART station. The design theme is modern-meets-schoolhouse, with a wall of collaged vintage library cards and tables made from wooden desks salvaged from Sequoia High School.

And the completed menu includes such cheesy delights as Mexican Mac (Star Meats’ homemade chorizo, chipotle peppers, jack cheese, and cilantro, served with a lime wedge); Bacon, Egg & Cheese (Extra-sharp cheddar, Star Meat’s house-cured bacon, buttery breadcrumbs, topped with a runny fried egg — Arevalo’s favorite); and Trailer Mac (cheddary mac with Prather Ranch hot dog bits and topped with crushed potato chips — says Wade, “It’s remarkably delicious and delightfully trashy.”). Also they have a nice local beer selection and eight wines by the glass. Note that they’ll only be open for lunch, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., for the first week. Follow them on Twitter for updates. (And follow us while you’re there, if you don’t already.)

Homeroom - 400 40th Street, at Shafter (map) - Open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from 2/15 to 2/20. Starting February 22, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tues-Thurs and Sunday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday - info@homeroom.com
