Joe’s Pizza Coming to Hollywood Blvd., But Isn’t Really Joe’s Pizza

Eater hits us with three surprising facts about Joe’s Pizza this afternoon, all in one convenient post. Crazy fact number one: Apparently pizza in L.A. sucked until Joe’s opened. Yeah sure, it was Giuseppe Vitale, and not Nancy Silverton, who turned the state of our pies around. Number two: Joe’s is headed towards Hollywood, taking the place of the Pizzeria Uno west of Cherokee. Go for it dudes, why not? Third and maybe most importantly: It turns out that Joe’s isn’t really Joe’s, as in the pizza place from New York’s Carmine Street that it long suggested. Apparently, owner Vitale, who once worked at Joe’s in NYC for a long time, was the one who opened the West Coast stores, but he is also being sued by Pino Pozzuoli, his father-in-law and the real owner of the real Joe’s, for trademark infringement. We’ve never gone too gaga for the slices here anyway, so yes, this really does make some sense. As for the new Joe’s, you’ll find it at 6504 Hollywood Blvd. if legal troubles don’t strangle its growth.
