Looks like those 50-cent dogs weren’t the best business plan: Gray’s Papaya has quietly shuttered its Hell’s Kitchen location owing to what Eater hears is a “rent issue,” meaning the area is losing not one, but two New York institutions (and don’t forget the closing of Hickey’s nearby). And now we add it to the papaya graveyard. It’s horrible news, but probably a lifesaver for those of us who couldn’t decide between a Papaya dog or a White Castle (and always ended up getting both) when traversing the fast-food wonderland that is Eighth Avenue between 37th and 38th Streets.
