Blind Items

Updated: Big Changes Afoot at Le Club

We couldn’t help but notice a rather obvious blind item in the Inside Scoop print column today, which refers to a “clubby Nob Hill venture” and “tony site of past glories” that’s filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. We’re about 99% sure this is referring to Le Club (1250 Jones), the nightlife venue that has been known to serve a little food and that used to be home to Charles Nob Hill (where Frances’ Melissa Perello made a name for herself). It’s a nice, if formal, space, and we’re pretty curious to see what may happen there. Update: Paolo wastes no time in taking the blinders off the blind item on the blog (now we’re unclear why it was a blind item to begin with) and reveals that Le Club owner Gina Milano filed for bankruptcy in order to restructure and bring on Randy Lewis (Tavern at Lark Creek) as chef-partner.

Lewis made Food & Wine’s Best New Chef list in 2001 when he was at the helm of Indigo in New Orleans, and he plans to bring some Southern flair to Le Club as well.

And within a few weeks, the place may actually close for a redo, and Milano says she and Lewis are contemplating a name change.
