Benu Does $500 Dinner, French Laundry Raises Prices

The economy, at least when it comes to the highest end of dining in these parts, appears pretty strong as we hear word that the French Laundry has upped their basic menu price to $270 per person, while in New York the Keller empire raised the price at Per Se to a cool $295. And at Benu, the six-month-old restaurant of French Laundry alum Corey Lee, a new “deal” being offered through Gilt City comes with a $499 price tag for nine special courses with wine pairings from Keplinger Wines. (The regular 12+ course tasting menu, with pairings, would be $270.) As the Business Times reports, “Gilt is trying to redefine ‘deal’ as an exclusive opportunity rather than a big discount.” Tell us how you redefine “deal” again?
