Another French Chef Tackles Fried Chicken in L.A.

Master chefs back in France are surely going to stop sending their disciples to cook in Southern California if all they’re going to cook is Southern food. Chef Laurent Quenioux, following in the footsteps of fellow Frenchie Ludo Lefebvre and his famous fried chicken, is starting his own all-you-can-eat fried chicken Sunday supper at Pasadena’s Vertical Wine Bistro, which the chef recently joined in addition to running his Bistro LQ. Quenioux’s bird will bear both southern U.S. and southern French influences, using a buttermilk batter scented with herbes de Provence. Every Sunday starting March 6th, the chef will trot out his fried chicken as the centerpiece of a three-course menu that also includes such down-home bites as bacon grits, mashed potatoes, collard greens, apple pie, and jalapeno corn bread for a $29 prix fixe. Hopefully, the offal-inclined chef tackles gizzards in weeks to come, while we stay on the lookout for a possible coq fight brewing between Ludo and Laurent.
