Another Apartment-Based Food Business Becomes a Victim Of Its Own Success

The internet loves anything cute, and thus fledgling apartment-based cookie business Fat Cookies became a victim of their fast internet fame. After dropping a paper bag on a string out their second-story window last week, with an attached note that said “$1 for a fresh baked cookie, pull string if you want to partake,” their gambit caught the attention of SF-based but internationally popular Laughing Squid, who in turn told the world, and the world fell in love. Fat Cookies could barely keep up with demand, but all the foot traffic naturally led to some unwanted attention from the police, who shut down Fat Cookies yesterday, as SFoodie reports. They say they aren’t done yet, but were the cookies good enough to garner them legitimate business cred, sans cute sign on a string? We shall see. But let this be a cautionary tale for the nacho/burrito lady (and let the success story of Starry Kitchen, the apartment-based eatery that went brick and mortar in L.A., be an inspiration to Fat Cookies).
