Per wd~50 pastry chef Alex Stupak’s Twitter account last night: “End scene. I’m excited, scared and officially in the Empellon weeds.” To recap: He’s leaving to open his own Mexican-focused restaurant, Empellon. His three-and-a-half-year run at wd~50 (he took over after Sam Mason left) was by all accounts extremely successful. So successful, in fact, a source tells us that Wylie Dufresne has decided not to overhaul the pastry department, but will instead promote a sous-chef to replace Stupak. [Alex Stupak/Twitter]
